Private-label skincare for estheticians & day spas

Disclosure: Renaud Naturals is LabelOrigin's flagship client — Renaud pays LabelOrigin to bring it wholesale buyers. LabelOrigin doesn't sell product; Renaud quotes and fulfills.

You already do the hardest part: clients trust your recommendations because your hands are on their skin every appointment. A private-label line puts your name on the products you already recommend — and turns advice you give away free into retail revenue. Your own line usually keeps more margin than reselling another brand — and recommending a product with your name on it never feels like pushing products, because it is the same recommendation you already make in every appointment. The formulas come from Renaud Naturals, formulating and making natural skincare in-house in Loveland, Colorado since 1997. Request a sample kit, try it in the treatment room, and launch a line sized to a solo practice or a day spa.

What does a private-label line look like for an esthetician or day spa?

For an esthetician, a private-label line is usually two to four products: the cleanser and moisturizer you use in every facial, one treatment product clients ask about, and a body product. Clients buy what you use on them, so a short range is enough. A day spa can start wider, adding a product for the services that book most.

The economics are straightforward. You already recommend products after every appointment; today that recommendation sends clients to someone else's brand. Your own line keeps the retail margin in your studio and gives clients a reason to come back to you for refills instead of ordering online. The longer educational version of this page — small-batch volumes, the five steps, and what to ask a manufacturer — is the private-label guide for estheticians.

How it works

Four steps, from sample kit to shelf. The full approach is described on our process page; this is how it applies to a solo practice or day spa.

1

Request a sample kit

Tell us the products you use in every service and the ones clients ask about. We send a kit to try in the treatment room, on skin, over days.

2

Choose your path

Stock formulas that already exist, or a custom formula developed to your specification. Stock is the usual starting point for a solo launch: the formula exists, so you pay mainly for product, packaging, and labels.

3

Your label

Your studio name, your label, your story. The brand owner is generally responsible for label content and regulatory compliance, so confirm the label review process before launch.

4

Launch and reorder

A first run sized to a few months of realistic sales. Reorder minimums usually match first-order minimums, so plan the second run before the first sells out — and drop slow sellers instead of reordering them.

Objections, answered

What are the minimums?

Low minimums, sized to solo-practice and day-spa volumes — runs sized to months of real sales, so your cash stays in your business instead of on a shelf. We do not publish a number here because the per-SKU minimum depends on the formula and packaging you choose. Ask in the sample-request form and we will reply with the current per-SKU minimums for your shortlist, in writing, before you commit to anything. The trade-off is honest: per-unit costs run higher at small volumes — but a higher per-unit cost on product that sells beats a lower cost on product that expires.

How long does it take?

Stock formulas move faster than custom formulation, which needs development time and usually a second sample round. We do not quote a turnaround on this page because it depends on the route you choose and the formulas on your shortlist. Ask in the sample-request form and we will reply with the current timing for your line.

What about ingredients and compliance?

Ask for full ingredient lists before you approve anything, and ask what testing is included in the quote and what is billed separately: stability, preservative-effectiveness, and safety testing, itemized in the quote. Confirm who checks the label — labeling obligations generally sit with you as the brand owner. Also ask the sample question first: what does a sample round cost, and what is included in the per-unit cost — fill, packaging, and labels are often billed separately.

Who handles MoCRA?

MoCRA — the Modernization of Cosmetics Regulation Act of 2022 — expanded the FDA's authority over cosmetics, including facility registration, product listing, safety substantiation, adverse event reporting, and good manufacturing practice. The "responsible person" under MoCRA is the manufacturer, packer, or distributor whose name appears on the product label — for a private-label brand, that is usually you, the brand owner, not the contract manufacturer. The duties cannot be handed off by contract alone, but the practical work can be assigned: a manufacturer can register its facility, list products, and keep records. Confirm in writing who does what, and verify it. Our MoCRA guide for brand owners explains the duties in plain terms.

Start with what you already sell through. Look at your last three months: which products do clients rebuy, which do you recommend most, and which run out? Your first line is that list, branded — not a catalog of possibilities.

Read the low-MOQ explainer before you talk to anyone, and the cost guide for the buckets in every quote. When you are ready, the Renaud Naturals funnel starts from your studio's details and volume.

Renaud Naturals: a private-label funnel built for wholesale buyers

Renaud Naturals has formulated and manufactured all of its products in-house in Loveland, Colorado since 1997 — small batches, fresh to order, made in the USA, shipped across the USA and abroad. The company offers private-label stock formulas and custom formulation, and works through a five-step process from brief to delivery.

Renaud Naturals is LabelOrigin's flagship client. Our work is the funnel and the qualified buyers: a dedicated page that speaks to spas, salons, estheticians, and independent brands, asks about business type, volume, and program interest, and routes the buyers who fit to Renaud's desk. See the live funnel at labelorigin.com/renaud/.

What LabelOrigin does not do

Two boundaries keep this page honest. First, we do not manufacture anything. We do not formulate, fill, label, or ship products. Renaud Naturals makes the product; we bring the buyers and build the funnel. Second, we do not buy attention. Every buyer we bring in arrives through organic search, guides, and outreach — never through bought placement. If you want a line of your own with a manufacturer behind it, that is the work. If you want someone to make the product, that is the manufacturer's own craft, and we leave it to them.

Learn more about who we are on the about page, or start with the manufacturer lead-generation service to see how the funnel, qualification, and routing fit together. The guide on how to find wholesale buyers is the reading we hand to brands on the other side of the table.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can a solo esthetician really afford a private-label line?

Often yes, if the program is built for small batches — the whole point of low-minimum programs is runs sized to solo-practice volumes. The deciding numbers are the per-product minimum and the itemized per-unit cost, so get both in writing before committing.

How many products should my first line have?

Two to four. A cleanser and moisturizer you use daily, plus one treatment product clients ask about, is a complete launch. Every extra SKU multiplies minimums and shelf risk, so expand only when a product has earned its place through client demand.

What are the minimums?

Low minimums, sized to a practice rather than a national brand. The per-SKU minimum depends on the formula and packaging you choose, so we do not publish a number here — ask in the sample-request form and we will reply with the current per-SKU minimums for your shortlist in writing before you commit.

Who handles MoCRA compliance?

Under MoCRA, the responsible person is the manufacturer, packer, or distributor whose name appears on the product label — for a private-label brand, that is usually you, the brand owner. A manufacturer can do much of the practical work, such as registering its facility, listing products, and keeping records, but the legal duties stay with the brand owner. Confirm in writing who does what, and verify it.

Can I try the products before I commit?

Yes — request a sample kit and try the formulas in your treatment room, on skin, over days. Test the way your clients will use them, and treat a slow seller as information: drop it and double down on what moves.
